IBC launches new iPad app to help Canadians learn how to prevent water property damage..

Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has launched the Dry House Challenge iPad app to help Canadians learn how to prevent water damage to their properties.
Based on recent estimates, the Canadian insurance industry pays $1.32 billion each year in claims due to water damage.
Launched during Canada Water Week 2012, IBC's new Dry House Challenge iPad app is a free interactive game that shows homeowners how to prevent water damage in 15 potential problem areas around the house.
As the clock ticks, homeowners must 'fix' problems by choosing from a number of possible solutions and dragging the right icon to the source. The faster homeowners solve each problem, the more points they accumulate.
The app can be downloaded at no cost through iTunes and from IBC's social media site at www.getintheknow.ibc.ca.

Travellers should be prepared for Air Canada strike

Heading south for the March Break? Do you have Cancellation Insurance?

Cancellation insurance is important for any trip but becomes even more pressing with the possibility of a strike at Air Canada starting as early as next week when many Peterborough families are heading "everywhere south" from Florida to the Caribbean, said Patti Hewitt, manager of Carlson Wagonlit Travel in Peterborough.
Hewitt said any strike at the major Canadian airline would disrupt plans of thousands of people around the world, and typically Air Canada and the federal government will do their utmost to prevent it from happening.

Should the strike go ahead, Air Canada typically refunds your ticket, she said.
But it gets trickier when you've pre-paid for things such as hotel rooms or all-inclusive resorts.
Cancellation insurance can covers those costs too, Hewitt said.
You don't necessarily have to cancel plans, however, even if there is a strike.
Other airlines could step in and transport passengers for no extra cost, she said.
Air Canada may also allow you to change your flight to a later date, for no extra charge, if your plans are flexible, she said.
But March Break is a tough time for a strike because most people have booked off the time and are taking children, who also only have that window of time off from school.

Leap Year Facts and Traditions

Tobogganing in July and sunbathing in December are just some of the wacky phenomena we'd have to contend with if we didn't have leap years to keep our calendar in sync with the Earth's orbit around the sun.
The answer, simply put, is that the Earth doesn't take exactly 365 days to orbit the sun. It's actually closer to 365.242 days. While that may not seem like much, it amounts to almost six extra hours a year, which does add up over the long run.
