As the sun shines brightly over Waterloo Region, there’s no better way to savour the season than by lounging on a patio with good food, great company, and memorable views. Whether you’re a local looking to discover new favorites or a visitor eager to explore, we’ve curated a list of the most charming and inviting patios in the area.

Below are the results of a staff survey that lists a few of our team’s favourite local patios for Summer 2024. All serve up great food, refreshing beverages, and fun places to enjoy summertime while it’s here.

Editor’s Note: The following patios are presented in random order.

The Best Patios in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and Waterloo Region:

  • Arabella Park Beer Bar, Kitchener
This Belmont Village patio is perfect if you’re looking for a refreshing drink. The patio is large and offers plenty of umbrella shade. Also, the walk-up service provides a laidback atmosphere. Reservations are available for this patio and the staff are incredibly helpful at recommending a new drink if you’re looking to shake things up!

  • Foundry Tavern, Cambridge (Galt)
In the historic Gaslight District of Cambridge is this trendy new spot. The patio is located on the cobblestone courtyard area with comfortable seating. There are plenty of interesting food and beverage options for every taste. Plus, at night, this is a particularly “Insta-worthy” spot to hang out with friends.

  • Rustico Kitchen and Bar, Kitchener
Rustico is located beside the Staebler office and has long been a go-to for Staebler employees. The patio has a lovely Italian feel and it’s easy to forget you are in the middle of the city when dining here. The food is always delicious, there is lots of shade for hot days, and the drinks are wonderful!

  • Bobby O’Brien’s and Don Julio Tacos & Tequila Bar, Kitchener
In Downtown Kitchener this pair of establishments serve up a ton of space for groups of friends and family to meet and enjoy the sunrays. Feeling traditional pub grub and beer? Bobby’s is a great choice with hearty food and cold drinks on tap. Looking for a more chill vibe with tacos and a margarita? Check out a newer addition to DTK at Don Julio – it’s become a favourite amongst our team!

  • Ethel’s Lounge, Waterloo
Located on bustling King Street North, Ethel’s is often dubbed the best patio in Uptown Waterloo. Since the pandemic they have expanded patio seating into their upper parking lot to allow more people to experience the fun. The menu features a TexMex flair with crowd favourites like pulled pork nachos, enchiladas, and of course their popular Taco Tuesday.

  • Puddicombe House, New Hamburg
More of an upscale option awaits after a short drive down Highway 7/8 to New Hamburg. On the outside of a hotel, spa, and restaurant in a restored 1868 building, the patio spaces include a wraparound veranda and plenty of additional covered, outdoor seating. Their casual fine dining menu features pastas, wood-fired pizzas, and mains that will have you coming back again and again!
