Definity (Economical Insurance) acquires Travelers Canada

On Jan. 2, 2026, Definity Financial Corporation, the parent company of Economical Insurance, completed its acquisition of Travelers Canada.

This significant purchase includes all the personal insurance business and most of the commercial insurance business (excluding surety and new home warranties) from Travelers Canada. It combines two well-established insurance providers and positions Definity as one of the top five property and casualty (P&C) insurers in Canada.

No Immediate Changes to Your Coverage or Service

We want to reassure you that there are no immediate changes to your day-to-day insurance experience. Your current policies remain in force with the same terms, conditions, and coverage limits.
In addition, premium payments, billing, and policy documents continue as usual.

For claims, renewals, endorsements, or any questions, please continue to contact your Staebler Insurance Broker to help guide you through the process.

Definity has emphasized their commitment to Staebler Insurance as a broker partner and service to our clients remains unchanged. They will continue to provide updates as the integration progresses.

What Does This Mean for You?

For Staebler’s Personal Insurance Clients

If your personal lines policies (such as home, auto, condo, or tenant insurance) are with Travelers Canada, Definity will be working over the coming months to integrate these policies but in the meantime no changes are being made.

For Staebler’s Commercial Insurance Clients

Most commercial lines policies (excluding surety and new home warranties) underwritten by Travelers Canada will also be transitioning to Definity. This includes many small-to-medium business packages, commercial property, liability, and fleet policies.

Definity has stated this move will bring enhanced product offerings. Our hope is clients can look forward to potential access to new or improved coverage options.
