It is expected that Canada Post will resume its operations on Tuesday, December 17, after a four-plus week strike halted the delivery of mail across Canada.

Labour negotiations aside, there are implications to your insurance policies and important documents that you should be aware of and potentially on the lookout for.

Insurance Companies will Resume Registered Letters for Cancellations

Many insurers paused cancellation notices by mail during the strike since they couldn’t send registered letters to notify policyholders. With the resumption of postal services, these registered letters are expected to once again be sent to insureds notifying them of an impending cancellation.

Additionally, in most cases there is a significant backlog of policy documents to be mailed. In some cases, policyholders may receive a duplication of the electronic documents already received from their broker. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Staebler Insurance Broker if you have any questions, require any copies of documentation, or need any clarification.

What You Need to Know

Be sure that you’re up to date on policy payments. If you receive a cancellation letter due to a missed premium payment from your insurance company, it is important to take these notices seriously and arrange to provide payment as soon as possible.

If you have questions or concerns about your policy documents or an updated payment schedule, please reach out to your Staebler Insurance Broker.

UPDATE: Canada Post has announced that delays and restrictions are expected and it may take weeks for letters and parcels to be delivered. Service standards are not expected to stabilize until some time in the new year. Resuming operations: Important information for customers | Canada Post

Staebler’s Calendars will be Mailed

With the end of the postal strike, Staebler Insurance can now mail out our 2025 calendars to clients. If you previously indicated you’d like a Staebler calendar you should expect to receive it in the coming weeks. While we can’t guarantee a delivery date based on the reported backlog of mail through Canada Post, rest assured they’re on the way!
