Before Moving In

Transfer utilities (electricity, water, internet) to your new address or into your name

Deep clean the home

Inspect for leaks, pests, and structural issues

Change locks and security codes

Consider mail forwarding and create a list of who needs your new address for mailings. Don’t forget to update your drivers licence and health card too!

Request time off work for your move well in advance

Make a box of cleaning supplies, bathroom essentials, a moving day toolkit, chargers and extension cords, light bulbs and batteries, garbage supplies to go with you so they are easily accessed on moving day.

Pack a suitcase with your personal items and bedding that you can easily access at the end of a long moving day!

First Week

Unpack the essentials first (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom)

Set up home security (cameras, alarms) and your internet

Purchase a fire extinguisher

Test appliances and plumbing and report any defects to your realtor or arrange repairs. Consider service appointment for large appliances to keep things in good repair
