The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) released the list of Canada’s most stolen vehicles, and once again, Ford F-Series trucks dominate the list.
Six of the top ten stolen vehicles across the country are Ford F-350 models from various model years and three are F-250 trucks. The IBC says thieves target trucks first because they hold their resale value and make it easy to carry out other crimes, like hauling stolen goods.

In Ontario, thieves most often target high-end SUVs and trucks, including Chevrolet’s Tahoe, Silverado and Suburban.
The IBC reports 85,000 vehicles were stolen in 2017, a 6% per cent increase over 2016.
Another strategy thieves are employing involves mimicking the key fob to cars. They use the close proximity of the key and the car to transfer a signal to unlock then start the car and ultimately drive off. Think of it as a high tech version of jimmying the locks.
Police are suggesting people to keep their key fob far away from their car and in a signal-jamming box.
